A question for 253 tuner users. I recently acquired two (2) 253 tuners to assist in automating my station. The instructions say to use interconnecting cables of RG174 for the QSK loop. These cables w

The QSK loops are just signal cables and do not carry RF. The simple radio shack shielded audio cables with RCA phono connectors on each end work fine. I have been using them for years. I assume you

I just used some ordinary RG-58 and soldered on the RCA plugs. Probably not high quality but it works and is cheap. You get to choose your length that way, too. I recall the manual says not to use au

Cheap cables are sort of shielded with a spiral wrap, not braid. RS cables are the cheapest made of cables, nearly always spiral wrapped. That can let RF get into the control circuits. RG58A or RG58C

Hi Allan, I suggest you use the best RCA phono cables you can find, or build you own using RG-58, so that you know what kind of shield they have. I had some trouble with my 253, which seemed to be RF

Allan and Ken, A test of extra shielding for the area around the RCA cables can be done by wrapping them in Aluminum foil, then grounding the foil with a short clip. However, the coupling could be ma

This whole issue of cable shield quality and RFI is a red herring. The REAL issue is improper connection of the cable shield at the equipment! The ONLY good connection of the cable shield is directly
