Mike, I use a Yamaha CM500 with both of my Orion IIs. It works very well, but will require some padding or you'll need to turn the Orion's mic gain way down since its output is much higher than most

That's also true with the FT-1000MP. I made up an adapter for a DX trip, and tested it before leaving. I WAS able to turn the mic gain down low enough to avoid distortion. Dunno about the Orion, but
