Hello group, I recently picked up a Titan 425 and am looking for some insight. One of the first things that I noticed is that the input SWR is over 2:1 on both 20 and 40m. It is near flat on 15. I ha

There are bolts through the laminations on the transformer. Tighten them, they should reduce the hum. Some transformer cores are destined to hum because at high flux densities, the iron changes size

What does your antenna VSWR through the amp (amp out of the circuit) look like? It has probably changed with the added lenght of coaxial cable from your exciter to the amp. I have a 425 and initially

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Several suggested tightening the bolts on the transformer to reduce the hum. While I don't recall seeing any bolts when I had the PS open for cleaning/inspection an

The tape wound cores held with band straps do run a high flux density and do have magnetostriction. A little isolation by rubber insulators at the mounts may help quieten it. Its not faulty, its just

What the coax probably does is to supply the input C for to make an L network in the PA into a PI. The L network leaves more mismatch while the 29 pf per foot of the coax contributes to the match. Ad
