Besides needing a tuner to handle the very high impedance of the longer end fed wire; as it does get to multiples of 1/2 waves, you have more and more of the response coming from ONLY the direction o

Stuart is absolutely correct on this one. Additionally the end fed wire does require a very good ground system to be effective. And three or four driven ground rods do not a good ground system make.
Well said Bob, about the balanced center fed doublets! They are the least problem, to work well! Learned that 46 years ago and it has not changed!\ 73, Stuart K5KVH __________________________________

For more than 40 of the 51 years I've been licensed, my antenna has been a "Center-Fed Zepp" ala what Bob described. For about 20 of those years I lived on a city-sized lot in Columbus, Ohio, and the
Does anyone have a stock or source for small amounts of 12 guage tinned solid wire for "rolling your own" tank tuner coil OR does anyone have some spare 2.5 inch diameter, 6 turns per inch stock they
Stuart, you're right: you need a tuner; you get RF in the shack with certain antenna lengths; and a good ground is essential. However, although I usually prefer to ignore isolated anecdotal reports,
Joe, Well, some of you are lucky enough to have used end fed antennas in situations where the ground conditions helped your need to ground. My two very bad end fed wires were 1) in the desert where t
Although I fully agree with the advantages of feeding the random wire in the center, I think most people often forget to think outside of the box. Try one of these mounted vertically. 2x 5m; or 2x 6m
Stuart, I don't disagree with a word you've said. However, keeping the ground lead shorter than a 1/4 wave on the highest frequency band you're using will minimize the RF in the shack problem. Obviou
Joe, True if you are making ground wires to earth. Let me hasten to state, I was speaking of using quarter wave counterpoise, (radial) wires to cure RF on the chassis problems. Stuart K5KVH _________
