Hi Steve: You got my story....unadulterated/unabridged! (and boring, yes, I know....) I never asked TT if there was a "FIX" for freq jumping...I just said, "fix it." They did. If I am the only one yo
I have just bought a used Tentec Scout and I guess I should have read this group 1st. I have looked at this group for a couple of days now and seem to see allot of negative comments. Is there anythin
Hi All Don, I have the ARGO 556, the QRP clone of your Scout 555 and rest assured you did not buy the wrong rig. The receiver on the Scout/Argo's are very good. The Jones filter works and works well.
Don , I don't think anyone can say anything negative about the Scout in truth. Rather just point out the obvious, it is limited to ham bands, ssb and cw, it doesn't have the panash in looks of a do-a
Hi, I am a former Scout owner, and have only nice things to say about the rig, most of which everyone here has had to read several times. Replacing the rig was *not* the right decision at the time. I

This is the one problem I have had with the Scout, and the reason I do not own one. I have found in the several Scouts I have encountered, that they require more than 12 volts to operate full power

If the regulated voltage in the Scout is 10 volts and there's a 7810 providing that voltage, it fits with needing more than 12 volts to run. There's an equivalent LM2900 family chip LM2940T-10.0 that
This may be true Clark but a lot of rigs won't even turn on at less than 12 Vs or if the voltage starts to drop they cut right off in mid dit . No fun at all! I've ran a Scout off battery and notice
Come on Y'all. This is all very simple, actually. "I want this, I want that, I want it cheap"!! Get real! Ain't none of these radios going to be everything to everybody, or anybody, for that matter.

This is the essence of the situation. I can't agree enough with this. Try it out. All engineering involves tradeoffs, find out what you want from a radio then determine how Ten Tec made the tradeoffs
Actually the Scout uses a 2940 type regulator that is spec'd to operate at 11V. Some owners have reported problems with running the Scout on battery (nominally 12 V), but I think most of these proble
I have had three TenTec Scouts. The first was bought new from the Company, and returned in 30 days. The second was a demo bought from the Company and returned in ten days. The third was a used Scout,
Well James for about $3.00 and 10 minutes soldering time you can fix that problem and install a RIT circuit at the same time. The mod is on the unnoficial Ten Tec page and in QSTs Hints and Kinks boo

So there's a LM2940-11.0? Means 11.5 volts is the low limit on the input voltage. After some use a poor battery will drop down that far under load, and it doesn't take much of a resistive connection
<snip> <snip> Gee Jim, why didn't you just use an external keyer? Problem solved :-)! 7 3, Tom K3GM -- FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/tentecfaq.htm Submissions: tentec@contesting.com Administr
Not so, Tom. I did use an external keyer. I tried the internal keyer and it worked fine, but the drift/shift problem was there. So I connected up my CMOS keyer I have been using for years, ever since
Jim, I don't think I'll ever get my Argo 556 up to those lofty speeds except for contest "bursts", but I always read, and heard that it was processor time allocated to the keyer that made the frequen
Am breaking my own rule about unnecessary continuation of threads, but: Must interject a note regarding unjust labeling of Scouts as drifters..... I have had two....still have one. I was privileged t
I bought one of the first scouts. I ran it pactor1 and amtor at 30 watts and never experienced any freq drift nor had any reports of drift. I worked many mbo's with it and it stayed right on freq. As
Been running one mobile for about a year now. Have had no problems. I work mainly nmobile CW and enjoy not having a myriad of knobs to twist. I've had an Argo 556 for three years and have enjoyed it
