I finally ordered an Inrad 2400 ssb filter for my Orion 2.will use it in the vacant 1800 hrz slot. Will be interesting to hear the difference in performance. Any comments? ___________________________
Makes no sense to me. What was your thinking behind that plan? Maybe I'm missing something, but the radio will work exactly the same with or without a 2400hz filter in the 1800hz slot. There's no cas

I sure agree with you 100% on this Barry! The 1.8 KHz only kicks in when you narrow the passband bandwidth of the DSP to less than 1.8 KHz anyway so the bandwidth of the Inrad will not even be notice
oklooks like I misread what TT has installed.I will pull the 2.4 TT filter and try the inrad filter in its stead and see what, if any difference, it makes. ___________________________________________
Except... You could just leave the DSP at a wider bandwidth, 2.5, 3, 4, then switch the roofing filter from the filters menu. Hassle-ish, and perhaps of little outright utility, but might allow you t
Negative, the Inrad filter is a 4-pole filter. Sorry, this effort is a total waste of money and time. 73, Barry N1EU _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contest
If anything, I actually prefer the original Ten-Tec filters in this case because they were totally sealed/enclosed and thus may prefer superior crosstalk etc isolation to the unsealed Inrad filters.

I did not realize that the Inrad filters were not shielded. Thanks for the info. Also, not being 8 pole, I also wonder why one would pay extra for one. Gary __________________________________________
As I recall, the initial 4 pole filters from ten tec were not in a metal enclosure but the Inrad filters are. I did not realize that the Inrad filters were not shielded. Thanks for the info. Also, no
That must be Inrad's new invisible metal enclosure: http://www.inrad.net/product.php?productid=190&cat=94&page=1 _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.
In general, shielding is FAR less important than careful control of signal return paths. What EMC guru Henry Ott calls "the hidden schematic lurking behind the ground symbol." 73, Jim K9YC __________
I have an early 565. Early to make and early to break? Neither the filters nor the synth board have the topside shields. If anyone wants to have a stab at it, $500 shipped in USA lower 48. Transmit b
