Just got my SteppIR up yesterday. All is well, except... Hooked the Orion serial port to the Steppir data in using Steppir-supplied "K2" cable. Set everything up according to manual, I think. No comm

Martin, According to what I have read here on contesting.com it will be the cable in the end. Someone had this problem a few weeks back and commented on it. Hopefully they will answer your question s

Martin: I had the same problem with my Orion. They sent me the K2 cable and it just wouldn't work. After a couple of conversations with Jim at SteppIR, we decided that the pin connections were incorr

The SteppIR cable "K2" has Orion-Steppir connections: 2-2, 3-3, 5-5, shell-shell, and pins 7-9 jumpered at SteppIR side. This accords with the Steppir document at http://www.steppir.com/pdf/serial%20

Is that cable called "K2" because its made for use with Elecraft K2? Not likely to fit another radio, if so. There might be voltage level differences among others. Was there a pin out schematic with

No there is no voltage level diffence in RS232 (serial) as the RS232 standard actually dictates the voltage levels and lead names. Implementation of the hand shaking protocol IS done differently by d

Martin: My K-2 cable had Orion pin 7 to SteppIR pin 4. I think that you will find that Orion pin 7 to SteppIR pin 7 with SteppIR pin 7 connected to pin 9 will also work. That is how mine is configure

Bernard, Please comment further on your Steppir problem. IS it a mechanical binding, or did some of the cogs for the teeth strip out? 73, Stuart K5KVH _______________________________________________

Stuart: I don't yet know what the problem is? I don't think that the cogs have stripped out, but I'm not sure how to check if it is binding. I'm experiencing the same problem with a second driven ele

Definitely need an antenna analyzer to sort things out. The Steppir I have seen at ham shows has had the housing open so you could see the mechanics whir and move. Likely, you could do that, and list
