1. [TenTec] S Meter Problem with Omni V (score: 1)

I just bought an Omni V with the N4PY mod. It works great, except for the S meter. I was told when I bought it that it was hypersensitive, and that is true. Is there a "most frequent" cause for this?

As far as I know the manual with circuit diagrams that you can download from Tentec is all the "service" manual there is. Looking at it I have found that there is an S-meter sensitivity adjustment R4

Well, I assumed that if it were that simple, someone else would have made the adjustment. (Note to self: Don't assume.) You're absolutely right: all it took was adjustment. R45 was set at its highest

Frank: I never made the adjustment because I didn't have a signal generator... I wasn't going to fiddle with the R45 without having a true sense for what the actual signal strength was... Plus, the O

John, At some point I'll borrow a signal generator and set it up right. But it works OK for now. Thanks. Frank KK4PR _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contest

Maybe these questions can help him hoarse in the proper settings better. How many Microvolts per S unit should it be set for? Can that be measured on the back of the meter or at the connect point on

The OMNI V manual says 50 microvolts RF at the antenna connection to show S-9 on the meter. Probably at 14 MHz. I have no idea what that is DC, probably half scale on the meter. 73, Jerry, K0CQ _____

I set 'em up this way: 14200, USB...widest filters...RF Gain 100%, Passband tuning peaked. NB off, AGC on and fast. 50 uV at the antenna port...Set for S9. Phil C. Sr. k4dpk _________________________

Fine, IF you have a 50 microvolt signal from a handy signal generator. If like the original poster you don't have such a generator, you punt. 73, Jerry, K0CQ _________________________________________

You're right Jerry. In that case, he could depend on reciprocity and adjust for equal signals, while listening to someone running equal power and similar antenna. Phil C. Sr. k4dpk Ecclesiastes 10:2

Good idea. I hadn't thought of that. What I did was adjust it to be about the same as the meter on my TS-480. I basically wanted it to go to (or near) zero with no signal, and not peg with any distan

Don't compare it to a third radio! You have done fine, just use it. The factory calibrations were never any closer. 73, Jerry, K0CQ _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list
