I have a Omni D and want to get a good boom mic with a headset. Something like a pro set 6 from Heil. Am told that the impedance is not high enough on the Heil mics. Anyone have any suggestions ? Tha

First, that is dead wrong. Second, the Yamaha CM500 would work quite well, but you would need to use the battery box, and you will need a simple cable adapter between the headset and the radio. 73, J

I replaced a Heil Proset Quietphone with a Ten Tec headset for use with my Orion 565 for impedance reasons. I am very happy. Heil is a great marketer of average to substandard gear in my experience.

Based on my knowledge of the industry... I think HEIL buys stuff from China and does final assembly here in the US. So, it all turns on how you feel about final assembly being called "made in the US"

I would leave out "substandard," but I otherwise agree completely.. The quality of their products is VASTLY over-rated -- Bob Heil is a great SALESMAN, and his company buys a lot of advertising space
