1. [TenTec] Orion NR problem (score: 1)

Hi, A couple of new anomalies have shown up on my Orion. 1. The introduction of NR has no effect or the noise level increases. 2. Squelch does not work. A master reset cures this but only for a short

Not sure about the squelch, since I have never used it and don't know how it behaves. If you have increased the AGC threshold, either with the THRESHOLD control or possibly by the curent link betwee

On my Orion, using 1.372, pushing the NR button doesn't always turn NR on or off. I can do so reliably with Ham Radio Deluxe control software and that is how I do it. I also notice that there is ofte

That's really strange. Never observed that on 1.372. Do you have your control software sitting active on the async port, when this happens? The only time I've ever had a problem like this is in the

Grant, I'm not sure. I've been using either N4PY or HRD since last fall--and before 1.372 was released. I didn't have the issue with NR under 1.371 using HRD but don't remember if I've experimented w

Just so y'all know, my comments below on the fw bug on the Orion do not indicate any flagging of enthusiasm for this radio. I have never owned a better rig, nor hoped to own one this good. I'm glad i

Gary I sometimes find it hard to tell if the NR is working or not. Band noise is still there. But I find that if I let the NR "do its thing" the S meter gradually declines and even though I still hea

The way Buck describes this problem, it almost sounds like a "debounce" problem on the switches. I just hit mine at least 100 times and couldn't get it to repeat again, and yet last night it did it t

Not sure, Steve, but I wonder if the degree to which the NR works might be due to the characteristics of the noise? I also remember it being much more aggressive on the earlier FW versions, but just

Steve, I do have the same feeling; in these days (since 1.372 DSP gain control introduced) the NR improves signal to noise ratio. Check out ages 15/16 and 46 of the manual. I think under quiet band c

My Orion came with 1.371. I've tried 1.369 and 1.372. To my ears, 1.372 is "noisier" and the NR circuit doesn't seem to work as well. There is the inconsistent switching using the NR button. Using HR
