One day this will all come together ... Hard Lesson #1. If you use the QSK keying loop with the PIN switch in an Ameritron amp, then you BETTER MAKE SURE you have the loop set to ON in the Orion menu

Grant, Did you have a series diode in the keying line from the amplifier ? Reason why I ask is if the diode is there then nothing should get back to the amp when it is not used. Terry W6RU

Grant, Would you expand the above please ... as your saying that if you want to use the Orion, but with the AL1200 OFF ... you have to go into the Orion's MENU and turn the keying loop OFF also? Tha

Well, at least with the AL-1200. If the amp is off, the Enable line back to the Orion doesn't signal back to the Orion that it is safe to apply RF. Seems reasonable to me. I might put a relay on the

This is worth repeating...Ten-Tec's TX OUT/TX EN should only be used with amps that support such a key loop structure. Grant found out the hard way. Unless one is using an amp which uses a send and r

Grant, Thanks for the information! Mnnn ... Are/did you using a diode in the keying line at present? Or is the "Y" solid wiring? Wonder if the diode might be in the wrong portion of the "Y" ? <as in

The AL-1200 does support the key loop stucture and provides the necessary handshaking. It's working perfectly with the Orion's keying loop. The fact that I had a mind meld with a rock while initiall

I think I can understand what is happening here. The following applies if the PIN5 switch is the built into the amplifier. If it is an external box, some things may be a little different operationall

I stand corrected then...glad to see that the AL-1200/QSK has a separate send and return key line. I was assuming you had used the mod on the Alpha page verbatim. -Paul, W9AC
