I've yet to dig up a microphone for the new rig.. So I'll leave the hard gain control set for right now. I have an old D-104 but was never happy with the audio reports from it.. to tinny, no low end.

Mike, if you have the very oldest D 104, the bad audio reports you describe are typical of an impedance mismatched D104. It is a high impedance mike. To use it for modern low to medium impedance SSB
