Ken my Century 21 has the hum in the headphones. I do not know if the hum can be heard in the speaker as I always use phones with the C-21. I use the MFJ-392B Headphones which have an impedance of 32

Direct conversion receivers are prone to pick up AC 60 hertz hum as the result of modulation of the VFO carrier (which is at the operating frequency in a direct conversion receiver) with the 60 hertz
