I use amplified D104 mics on both my Argonaut II and Omni V with great results. I set the gain on the internal mic preamp to nearly minimum to prevent overdrive of the radio's audio circuits. I have

Amplified D-104 were made for the CB trade. The makers of CBs have decided to prevent over modulation by limiting the audio gain, to the point of killing communications range. Base stations talked be

The Astatic amplifier in the D-104 base is designed as an impedence matching device, not a "talk power improver" (whatever that would be). There is some insertion loss, so if the gain is set at it's
