Hello gang, I have an Orion currently using it with a TT Centaur. Works well full QSK. I have an opportunity to get an Alpha 91B for a good price. Looking at the Alpha I see it does nor suppport the
Hi Lee; I suspect it will depends bit on just how fast you operate. If the 91's keying is as fast as the 87A you won't have much if any degredation in the QSK. Of course, I could tell the difference
Lee, The Alpha 91B is a great amp and will operate full QSK with TenTec rigs. Just connect the amp using its "relay" and "key out" to the rig's Tx out and Tx en. "Key out" goes to "Tx en". It couldn'
Pete I'm flumoxed by your comment on the 87A. The 87A is as fast a QSK amp as I've ever seen. It's awful with Ten Tec loop keying, because it switches too fast for it. My 87A with my Orion is good to
Here's what AlphaPower says. You might want to investigate.. http://www.alpha-amps.com/html/ampkey.htm and for the OMNI VI plus: http://www.alpha-amps.com/html/tentec.htm Dave W7DPW -- Original Messa
Bob, What setup do you use for keying your 87A with the Orion? Alan N5NA _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/
Alan, It really couldn't be simpler because the 87A has lightening fast T/R switching. I just connect a straight through RCA to RCA plug cable from tha Orion Amp Key 1 socket to the relay socket on t
Dave What Ten Tec suggests for the Omni VI+ is not good! Here's why....... The T/R switching in the 87A is very fast. It is pin diode switching not mechanical relays. The T/R switching on the VI+ was
Hi Bob, I guess I will have to re-read what I wrote. Sometimes with two grandkids, two dogs, and Kritter the hamshack cat buzzing around what I write does not come out all that clearly. Especially be
Is all of this true with the Alpha 91B as well? Can't affors an 87A, but got a handle on a 91B. Any comments on the 91B's? Any bad things? Lee _______________________________________________ TenTec m
Bob / Pete, What do you guys recommend the EXT T/R Delay be set to on the Orion? 0 %? Alan N5NA grandkids, two dogs, and Kritter the hamshack cat buzzing around what I write does not come out all tha
Bob, Thanks for the information, I have been using the Y-Connection for the past 4-5 years with my ONNI VI plus and my 89 and haven't gotten any bad reports. I've also used the Loop. I'll have to lis
Well, I have my Orion EXT T/R delay set to 0. Nothing seems to want to hot switch so I will leave it there until there is some reason to change. 73 Pete Allen AC5E -- Never squat with your spurs on _
?? I have the Alpha 99, which is almost exactly the same amp as the 91b (except made in the USA and with a different power transformer and blower), and it works fine with the TT keying loop in full Q
The 91B, and the 99 are mechanical vacuum relay switched, and they work perfectly with the Ten-Tec keying loop. Have been using mine that way on an Omni VI+ and Orion for some time. 73, Duane -- Duan
AH! Very good! Thats what I have been waiting to hear. So it does have a loop IN and OUT connection, just like the Centaur I have?? Lee _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing

Yep, but they're labeled differently - one is Relay, the other is Key Out. If I remember correctly, it is connected as follows: TT Alpha -- -- Tx Out -> Relay Tx En -> Key Out Works great. Have fun -
Duane, Thanks very much, Looks like it is the way to go. I just e-mailed W9MWS, the local selling the 91b that I will take it. After all I don't have to run it hard most of the time, but I got it in
Exactly - I run mine at around 800W most of the time. Just loafing along. If I need 1500W, it's there in abundance. Great amp. But you'll miss the "instant-on" feature of the 811's. 73, Duane Duane C
