John: You might try searching online for a Ridgeline owner community. For example, www.4x4central.com is devoted to the Ford Explorer and it has a ham radio/CB forum where owners can exchange informa
Mike: You might try the trick I did with my Scout. If the Argo V has conventional IF amp IC's, you can put a little positive bias on the AGC line to knock down the IF gain. 73, Bob WB2VUF ___________
Ivin: I find the Scout to be excellent on SSB. I always get good audio reports. I use a dynamic mike, usually a Shure CM-14AE (controlled magnetic reluctance) mobile mike or a Cobra mike with a gener
That's been my experience, too. Once when operating portable, it took a major frequency shift on SSB. I traced the problem to a corroded crimp lug where the power cable connected to the SUV battery.
That's interesting. I never saw that problem with mine on 40 meters. Could it be a grounding wire resonance or antenna issue that causes RF to get into the radio? I once had a problem with birdies wi
Curron: I can't help you with the calibrator, but I do have a copy of the manual if you want to build a duplicate. Also, Mike, WB8VGE has a Century compatible calibrator design. It was described a co
Interesting. There isn't much inside those modules except the oscillator and a couple of filters. Maybe it has a bad ceramic cap. That can be hard to find. 73, Bob WB2VUF ____________________________
Does it do that on every band? I had a defective Low Pass Filter board in my Corsair that caused it to trip out on 80 meters when I increased power. 73, Bob WB2VUF ___________________________________
Does it work with older Ten Tec gear like the Paragon or Corsair? Thanks. 73, Bob WB2VUF _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.contest
Gil: The Corsair uses some diodes on the counter board to preset the counter, depending on band. Check these, and the band information coming from the band switch. Also check the ceramic bypass caps
RF can get into the Scout through the power cable. Many owners, including me, use ferrite snap-on chokes on the power cable. 73, Bob WB2VUF _______________________________________________ TenTec mail
Gil: Just to clarify, the caps and diodes to check are inside the shielded box that encloses the frequency counter board, not in the VFO. 73, Bob WB2VUF ______________________________________________
Is anyone running a Timewave DSP-599 with a Paragon? Between the poor propagation and high noise level here from multiple sources, I'm thinking of adding one to my station. 73, Bob WB2VUF ___________
Some guys have been using the crystal oscillator in the Corsair remote PTO for PSK. My Corsair seems pretty stable after warm up, but I haven't used it on PSK, though I tweaked the temperature compen
I wish I had bought one of the ten meter to two meter transverters. It would have been the perfect mate for my Radio Shack HTX-100 10 meter SSB/CW transceiver, which never gets any use these days. I
I didn't know that they were available with gold pins. That would help because the pins in mine seem to develop oxidation which causes the PTO to shift frequency. 73, Bob WB2VUF _____________________
Ben: No, that is not normal. I run my Scout mic gain between 9 and 10 o'clock. I get plenty of audio and good reports. The Scout seems to do best with low Z dynamic mics. If you are using an electret
Lou: The PTO rebuild kit from Ten Tec comes with an ample supply of grease. It's green, kinda thick and sticky. Don't use a light grease or the PTO drive will slip. 73, Bob WB2VUF ___________________
