Hello Everybody. Thanks for allowing me to join this group. I am troubleshooting a Ten Tec Omni D that belongs to my boss. I just repaired the VFO and that appears to be working OK but the primary pr
Perry, Yes, I remember that switch. I've set it to "Receive" thinking I didn't need it on "Transmit". I see from the schematic that this disconnects the coax completely where I have the signal genera
Perry, et al That was it. The antenna switch was on "Receive" instead of "Transceive". The unit is picking up WWV and so on. Thanks and Merry Christmas! Lyman KK6LPW ________________________________
Happy New Year everyone! This Omni-D that I've been working has an annoying tone that can be heard across all bands and it is in the background. It measures about 1khz and will vary harmonically when
Carlos, I will do that when I get into the shop tomorrow. From your suggestion,I found these two other things I can look for in the frequency counter: 1. https://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php
Carlos, et al. After removing the magenta power wire from the logic board, the tone was gone! So it is the frequency counter. I then checked the 1000mfd cap and it tested fine for capacitance, ESR, a
Hi Carlos, Thanks for the link to the Corsair. Looks like the whining issue is resolved by just removing the 560pf cap between pin 16 and Vccon the IC4, the MK50398N. This cap was to enable the scan
Hello, I ran into a problem with this Omni-D after solving the whining problem on the frequency counter. The frequency display is incorrect for 10, 14, 21, 28, and 29 mhz. Any 10mhz frequency will re
Gary, I will put that 560pf back in and see if it corrects the display. I still think there is an issue with the Preset Amp board but I'll have to make some voltage measurements on the 3 transistors
Gary, The 560pf cap is back in and the display is back to normal!! Indeed, the scan pin on the MK50398N has a function of timing the updates to the display (I think). Sigh, but the 1khz tone is back
Please ignore my post above. I was able fix this problem by putting back the 560pf cap thats on pin 16 of MK50398N, display decoder chip. Lyman KK6LPW Sent from AOL Mobile Mail Get the new AOL app: m
Pete, It is possible that this maybe a "feature" but the owner and I feel that it shouldn't be there. It gets a little confusing tuning into CW or SSB with that tone in the background. It does disapp
Gary, Good suggestion. I will take my power supply to work and do that. It'll tell me which side the tone is coming from. Once I figure out which side, I'll use the scope to track it down. Lyman KK6L
Well, I finally used an external power supply to power Omni-D frequency counter and see if the whining tone would go away. On the first three bands, no whining could be heard, hooray. However, at 10m
