Hi Well , I check this list 3 times per day; once before going to work, once after coming home and one more time before going to bed.. Very often I read the sold notice at the same time that I read t

I'm thinking of a new mic for my Scout. The guys in my local net want me to get a mic that is less bassy than th Ten Tec hand held that I have now and since I do a little bit of *very casual contesti

Hi Duane, The WGA headset sold by the Ten Tec outlet store is an English electret mic with a "broad rise in the mid to upper range and a smooth rolloff below 500 Hz". Sounds something like the HC -5

Jerry I misrepresented the sound of the 701 mic with my Scout. It's no more than slightly bassy. However I've listened to myself and the mic does not have much upper mid range punch to it.(My Tram mi

Thanks for your answer, My technical understanding and skill level are rather low - but let's see if I at least understand what you are suggesting. A simple internal RC shaping mod could be made for

Well this thread has become more interesting than I expected. I think I need to tell you more about what I want. I like nice audio. I dislike 75% of the audio I hear on the ham bands and I am actuall

Ron I too have gotten very favorable unsolicited (but not consistent) compliments on the audio of the Scout and hand mic. I think that the variables include band conditions, and the other guy's headp

I think that my favorite non Ten Tec rig is the Kenwood TS 850/870 series, so I thought it would be interesting to compare the quality of its ssb transmit audio with the Omni V and my Scout. Since th

Given 50 watts output, and careful modulation, are the Scout's 3rd order -25 and 5th order -35 sufficient for a clean signal ? p.s I was monitoring my signal on a Kenwood today and feel that the hand

Tnx for your explanation. I'm beginning to understand that regardless of what mic or EQ unit I buy, the Scout may not be quite capable of the crisp, clean, top drawer communications audio that I desi

I realize this thread is somewhat off topic but I think of it as : "How can I transmit the best ssb possible with my Scout", so I hope this is more or less on topic for the list. I have listened to m

Yes, that was part of the experiment yesterday. Cross talking the handheld mic helped somewhat ,but cross talking the D-104 has resulted in the best communications audio so far. thanks Bob KB1CIW

George, Thank you. Your first 3 paragraphs are a good explanation of what my concern is. The borrowed D-104 that I am using seems to be doing a good job of reducing the low end and increasing the 100

George's research into the frequency response of the Argo explains the situation well. The Argo (Scout) has a peak at the lower frequencies with a slowly declining curve in the communications range.

Carter, Don't worry -be happy. It is my impression that most Ten Tecs are more susceptable to RF than most Japanese rigs. (I don't know why) This is not really a problem. I have little actual experie
