Another way, if you have a PC with a soundcard, is to use a spectrum analyzer program like Spectrogram to characterize the filter using band noise as input. This is the technique used by K2 builders

I know this is only anecdotal, but here goes - years ago, when I lived in Michigan, I drove a propane powered pickup truck. That darn thing would *not* start at temperatures below 0 degrees F or so.
