Vic, I can't remember, but does the KAM have settable receive tones? You may be able to vary them a bit. The FSK and receive tone settings are probably not exactly aligned, and changing the RX tones
John, Yes, I had the same problem on my Orion I (updated at TT) before the update was done. It only occurred when I ran 1 KW into my G5RV Jr which is only about 15' above the operating position (a po
Jim, Check to be sure you don't have XIT on. If not, then it would seem your transmitted tones may not be matching the received tones due to some change in the setup? I'm not a MMTTY expert, but if y
That's because TT included a 5-pin DIN cable, not a 7(?)-pin, which the jack makes available. I felt the same way, but I bought the full pinout cable that someone posted here a while back (I've lost
Same here - I still have the original Orion, and it is by far the most terrific rig I've owned. Yes, a couple of glitches here and there that still need tweaking, but, over all, an outstanding radio.
Ken, There was a discussion of this when the Orion first came out. The solution a number of us are using is to send the Main RX to both ears, and the SubRX to the right ear. This keeps the sidetone i
Lee, I know it's not obvious to non-practitioners of the art, but firmware is like sausage - you don't want to see it being made. Unfortunately, that is what is going on here - we're in the middle of
If you're using the narrow (HC-4) element, a "bad" audio report is probably accurate regardless of the rig it's attached to! 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas
Driving my Alpha 99, I see 1.0:1 SWR on all bands and with both 1.x and 2.x firmware, so far. FWIW. 73, Duane -- Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas http://home.austin.rr.com/ac5aa
Lee, I wrote a request to "ditsnbits" a few weeks ago asking for a couple of additions to the sweep - one being a "marker" for where the SubRX is tuned. This should be fairly easy to do, and would ma
I don't think the 300 Hz roofing filter would be too narrow for RTTY - the 170 or 200 Hz shift used in RTTY or Pactor should have no problems within a 300 Hz 4-pole filter. Remember, sharp skirts are
$120 for a speaker in a box?! Yikes! I thought the accessory speakers in pretty cabinets that match the radio were expensive! 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas
Orion 2 for me - receiver performance is everything when one has to use compromise antennas. I can afford either (with some belt tightening), but the Orion does all I need and then a bunch more. Also
Yes, but what headphones with microphone (like the ProSet) work well? Contesting and some DXing work much better with these! 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas
Interesting comparison. Up until the Orion, I used a 4" Realistic (Rad Shack) mini-bookshelf speaker that cost around $25 or so. It works very well. But since I got the Orion, I never plugged it in.
James, Recommend you do a Master Reset and a RAM reset. My Orion 565 works just fine in split mode on 40m LSB. I just experimented with the RX (VFO A) set anywhere from 7004 up to 7090 and it worked
Try something that several of us here tried over the weekend - Turn NR off, find a weak, at the edge of the noise CW signal, zoom in him with the BW at 100. Now, go adjust your filter taps from 199 d
Hmm, I'm also running 2.056, and ever since the first 2.xx release, I noticed that the audio line out from the Orion's rear connector to my HAL DXP38 dropped significantly from the 1.372 levels. I ha
