Thanks, George, switching CdE off seemed to help with the problem of using ALT-B & ALT-V switch bands more reliably. The manual shows that if SHIFT KEY ENABLE then you can use the left & right shift

Great. I guess we need to point this out in the manual - if it is not already there. I think the shift keys will tune the main VFO on Kenwood, Icom and Yeasu in the S&P mode. In the CQ mode the shift
