Hi... Just to add to John's comments... Here are my observations (so far) about operating stateside contests from North GA : So far I have done a couple Sprints, NAQP's and some state QSO parties. My

The problem with 80 cw is the lack of active stations in the SE. I think most folks are cutting their antennas for 75 ssb and forgetting about the cw band. Also the noise is quite intense until you g

Dan 80 does get rough in the South during summer, but it is clearing up now, at least in the mountains. A problem is that most state ARRL CW traffic nets operate on 80 with two sessions nightly , alo

More random thoughts on SS CW from a recent ex-Georgian... Operating QRP, best bands were 20 and 40. 40 was sometimes the #1 producer of QSOs. 80 often matched 15 in QSO production, and was the best

I don't see how a cw traffic net, operating perhaps 5 to 15 minutes, seperated by 3 to 4 hours per session could qrm the band enough to stop other 80 meter activity. If a CW net started up at say 7pm

Dan, How about a description of your inverted L, any radials or counterpoise? What are the dimensions? I have a 70' vertical I have been considering adding a flat top to cover 160/80. I just pulled s

Glad too. Nothing special really. Its around 190 feet ( maybe 195). Ive had it up in various configerations. But I find that if you get the vertical up about 50' it seems to talk best. Run the rest o

Michael, Here is what I used for 160 in Ohio : Cut a piece of wire about 130 ft long and get as much of it vertical as you can. If you have the W2FMI book - Building Baluns and UNUN's -look at page 6
