How does log checking handle a callsign that more than likely sent their ITU zone, rather than their CQ zone.....for example a K1** that sent CT 08...when asked for his zone, he clearly sent 08.....l

When you send in that log with the zone 8 for K1** the Robot will in all probality kick it back as an error and advise you to change it. It did similar for me in that I put ( state an zone ) in the w
