I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to locate the source in my neighborhood until I had hit the main breaker in my house. It is just much easier to do that, even with a minor inconvenience, than it

ARRL has very few reports of these things that have specific model numbers, so yes, please, send the information on any that cause interference to rfi@arrl.org. The rules require the following: 1. Th

At those levels, there is little doubt in my mind that this exceeds the FCC limits for emissions. Let me know what model number this is and we can get one and test it. Ed, W1RFI Late last week I enco

A great lesson, Tom, and thanks for sharing it. Do you have the model number of the offending device? I'd like to get one and test it to see if it meets or exceeds the FCC conducted noise limits. Ed,

Thanks. That's an easy one and we don't need to do any testing. But if we do know of devices that generate more than S9 noise from a house next door, the Lab wants to get reports because we can test

When CFLs first appeared, ARRL bought a mess of them from the big box stores and found that the ones being sold are pretty RF quiet. They were better than the FCC Part 18 limits, often by quite a bit

I bought one multi-LED bulb that came from China. It was dead quiet. My guess is that it simply put the LEDs in series and connected them to the line. Not all of them will have a switcher in them. AR

We haven't done any of that sort of thing, David. It's hard enough to find the time to test the products we test. Unfortunately, there is probably little that can be done about such QC problems. FCC

Actually, we don't. We have the screen room to do receiver and transmitter testing, and a room set up in compliance with ANSI C63.4 to do conducted-emission measurements, but not an anechoic chamber.
