The purist would argue that if you are going to abbreviate 9 to N you should abbreviate the whole sequence, that is ENN is proper and 5NN is not. This would also hold for power of 1TT, which is a hyb

In 20 years of contesting, I've never heard "ENN" sent as an exchange. "ATT" yes, but never "ENN". For crying out loud, how much difference do 4 dits make ? another way to abbreviate something on CW.

I concur. Thats why in CQ Contest Survey I voted to keep the "useless" 5NN. I find that this precept is exactly what is needed for successful QSOs. I haven't said it in as eloquent terms as you, but
