Not really, but... I did notice what I thought was an unusual number of first-time QSOs -- contacts with people I've never worked before. FWIW: Contest #1st timers Total QSOs %1st timers ARRL 160 53

I only spent about 5 hours working the contest, but I called CQ a lot. I noticed this, too. And I was signing after every QSO. My only guess is that sometimes the timing is wrong when people tune the

I think the problem was too many people way to close to each other, if not right on top of each other. Here's what I noticed... I wasn't doing anything serious this weekend. We had our company Christ

The cure for that in a packed band is to program a spare key to send {his call} + {exchange} instead of just the {exchange}... In a wide open band it is not necessary as both of you know you are work

My previous experience in past 160m contests is just the opposite -- everyone has their filters cranked so far up that if you aren't exactly zero-beat, you can call and call and call and they won't h

All: Denny is right on. There are two parts of the problem. First, two (or many more) stations on the same frequency who cannot hear each other Second, operators who cannot place their signal on the

Ooops. I was CQing in the window for a few minutes. I do so little operation on 160 I thought the window was 1825-1830 and tried to stay clear of that. I'll steer clear in the other 160 events. Bill

Another solution would be to not CQ on top of each other or leave more than 50Hz space. Most of what I heard this weekend surely weren't stations who couldn't hear each other. When I call one statio
