Something is starting to concern me that maybe you more experienced guys can help me on. I have been asking around lately about the FT-1000 and FT-1000D radios, because I noticed a reduction in price

Bob, As Dayton approached this year I was considering buying a Field. Then I woke up and realized that they're no longer available since Yaesu is now marketing the 2000. I had the good fortune to fin

The Elecraft K2/100. You can easily buy 2 K2/100's fully loaded for what you would pay for an Orion. Probably with 2 Dunestar automatic bandpass filters as well. 73 - Guy, N7ZG ______________________

Hi Mark, A couple of questions here: 1. I don't quite follow you. You say you didn't get a Field because they are no longer available, because they have been replaced with the FT2000. Then you buy a

I own an 850 and I have used an FT1000MP owned by my fellow contester NO9Z. The 1000MP has more features but they are both great contesting radios. I love the 850 and consider it the most "bang for t

Hi Mark, OK, got you now. I did have a FT1000MP for a little while, and it was a nice radio also. I am sure that the FT1000 is even better. Would like to try a TS850 sometime, but won't fit in the st

Your reasoning is interesting. Since Yaesu doesn't make the Field anymore, you decided to go for a rig a generation older for more money? The FT-1000 is a great rig and I'd probably even pay $2K for

Good point. I agree. From my experience the K2 falls short on transmit audio. _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ-Contest@contesting.com http://lists.contesting

Hello John, One radio which wasn't mentioned which is really worth looking at is the ICOM IC-765. Its advantages are a crush-proof front end and REALLY large knobs, which (in contrast to the '850) ma

I use a pair of K2/100's. The problem with ssb tx audio compared to most other contest radios is that the K2 doesn't have a RF-level speech compressor, only one acting on the mic input (audio level)

The K2 can be built for various SSB bandwidths. You can pretty much taylor the audio to how you like it to sound. My problem with it is that the Heil Pro Headset with the HC-4 element cannot drive it

I did not mean to minimize the capabilities of the K3, but almost any contester can sit down in front of an MP (or 2000) and not have a long learning curve. In the 70's, I had S-Lines and Drake C Lin
