Hello all, Over the last week, or so, I seem to remember 'glossing over' messages and seeing some comment, by someone, mentioning that 8410 Alpha amps have some circuitry that tends to limit their ou

Steve.  I would thrilled to get 1200 watts out of my L4B with 40 watts drive .  I actually know nothing about your amp, but I like to run mine at a fast idle rather than full bore.  If that extra 200

Hi Russ, I'm not really concerned about the extra 200-300 watts.  I've been using them like this for years and all has been fine. I was just wondering, if they are using some power 'fold back' circui

There is no intentional OUTPUT power limiting circuit in the Alpha 8410 amplifiers. The 8410 firmware WILL put the amp in standby if the DRIVE power exceeds 75w for too long, to protect the input cir

Hello Jim, I have several of them and it's all about the same. Plus/minus on different bands, but quite similar. I've had several people suggest it's because the screen voltage is only 200 volts. 73

The Drake L4B only need 2-4 diodes for bias. The less ZSAC the harder it is to drive. 73 Jim W7RY On 11/3/2018 12:25 PM, Jim Thomson wrote: Message: 2 Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2018 18:35:30 +0000 (UTC) From:

Jim, my response was a little toungue-in-cheek.  I know that I will never see 1200W out of my L4B with 40 watts of drive.  My point was to be happy with what the amp does produce when reasonably driv

Yes I concur with this suggestion Steve. With only 200 Volts on the screen in AB1 linear mode the 4CX1500B tubes are likely being starved and held back like variously reported amongst 8410 amp users.

Production 8410 amps have the screen voltage set to 225v. Some very early production amps were set to 200. The tube operating bias is then adjusted for 200ma idle Ip and an 8410 can easily get 1500+
