You sure can. Plug the empty hole with a tissue and drive it with around 25-30W on 40M. The input VSWR will be off but even a fussy rig should still give sufficient drive. If it looks good on 40 then

that's exactly how Alpha suggests you check the tubes, one at a time. in fact regarding one of the three holers they suggested eliminating one of the tubes (as I thought one of them was bad) and runn

Thats also the way National recommended it back in 63. It was also the method used for customers to check the matching of their tubes. I talked with Ray Heaton many times as I was a secondary source
