As many of you here know, I have been making some MAJOR changes to this Heathkit SB-220 amp. Many here, and many other places, have helped me both on these E-Mail lists as well as directly. I am extr

I did this once on a single-tube 3-500Z amp (an AL-80A) and raised the B+ about the same amount. A few back-of-the-envelope calculations showed that I needed more L in the tank circuit. It used a Pi-

Why do some of you guys want to jack up the plate v. on your 3-500s? The power difference won't be noticed and you'll create a cascade of problems. You still have the same plate dissipation and plate

i see sense in your comments here Rob, but am curious on why the IMD spec would be worse ? Apart from correct biasing and build quality, I was always under the impression that more voltage and less c

It's tube type dependent. Not all tubes work the same way. 73 Rob K5UJ _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listin

This IS a valid question. I am not sure about others, In my case it was 90% Cost. With side effect benefits. I knew that for high duty cycle modes you should run this amp at reduced power. I was usin

As far as Q, most ARRL handbooks have charts based on plate impedance and show C1 L C2 values for a Q of around 10-12.  Look at the chart that fits your plate impedance.  Set C1 and C2 to the values

Is IMD higher at higher plate voltage? From the 73 Eimac data sheet, for AB2, it's worse at 2.5kV than at 1.5 or 3.5. Then there's context. CW? For an amp originally designed for 1kW/2kW CW/SSB input
