Hello Anyone have a 5kv plate voltage meter. I have a 4kv meter but my transformer will bury it. Anyone have anything laying around? Chris NI4L

Chris, if you have a 4 KV meter why not make it an 8 KV meter. The 4 KV meter you have now probably draws 1 ma at kV full scale. That would mean it would have a 4 meg series resistor(s) built it. R=

Most "4 kV" (or any high voltage) meters are actually 1 mA or similar small-current meters that rely on an external, rather than internal, multiplier resistor in order to achieve the scale indicated.

I'd be careful if you do intend scaling any meters for use with high voltages by external multiplier resistors. Should the meter go open circuit for any reason, it puts 4 kV on one of the terminals.
