Hi Everyone, I have an opportunity to buy a Dentron MLA-2500B for a very resasonable price and it still does full output on most bands. over a kilowatt or near a kilowatt on all bands with only 50 wa

Hi Daniel - just my 2 cents follow. Each of these amps has it's "warts" - some more serious than others and they have been more than adequately covered both here and on other reflectors. So I won't p

This is an interesting thread to me not because of the AL-811 vs MLA-2500 but because I am designing and building an amp. If I understand this correctly, using a TS570 transceiver to drive my amp imp

I find that interesting also. There appear to be three distinct camps: 1) Use no tuned input and use the radio output circuit (tuner on some solid state rigs) to make the match, 2) Use a tuned input

I have gotten the same advice / impressions. A tuned input adjacent to the cathode appears to be the only true way to get a good flywheel effect. I suppose, if you didn't care about improving the IMD

Tony, Even the old 10-11 meter sweep tube amps had a tuned input, or at least the better ones of them. They even knew it was better than not having any at all. Most of those used a tuned transformer

Tony, The very reason they don't have them is cost. They build the amps as cheap as possible to make the most bux. For amateur amps, this means an extra bandswitch and a tuned circuit for each band.

I don't think most 11 meter amp manufacturers are to concerned about inter mod. The tuned circuit is there to transfer maximum power from the 50 ohm radio. 73 Gary K4FMX _____________________________

There is a problem with using a built-in tuner with a grounded grid amplifier. In a GG amp, the input and output are effectively in series. The input impedance varies with both the amp tuning and the

What I am getting at is the 11 meter amps needed all the power they could get for drive as there was only a few watts available usually. With a ham amp there is usually plenty of drive available and

I don't know if it used much anymore, but recall that some of the early linear amp designs used a high-wattage 50 ohm resistor at the input. This meant that much more drive power was required, but it

I will probably be sorry, but I am going to stick my nose into this one: 1. It is certainly true that a Class B grounded grid amplifier will have a varying input impedance over the driving cycle. 2.
