Well thanks to all of you here I have abandoned the idea of using the GU-84B.  Staying with a Triode is the way to go.  As it sets the amp needs a Tuned Input and a tank circuit refinement if I staye

Measure the overall height between the 400 and 500 but with the anode cap on the 400 and nothing on the 500. If they come in the same Ameritron sells a cooler that does not extend above the tubes own

If you can find PL-175A's they will equal a 3-500Z watt for watt.. Carl, I know you have a few years on me, so when I came on the scene the 3-500's were so popular that the PL-175A tubes were history

Hallicrafters sold the HT33A and HT33B which are different iterations of the same amp. They used the PL172/8295A which was a glass/metal external anode pentode with a 1 KW anode dissipation. The anod

The 4-400 is a tetrode, the PL-175A is a pentode, it has slightly higher output in any configuration. Johnson used both in the T-Bolt Carl KM1H _______________________________________________ Amps ma

The GS-31b is another one to consider. It has a plate dissipation of 1000 watts and they are available from several sources for $48 and $49 each plus $35 shipping. Glen, K9STH Website: http://k9sth.c
