A pair of 4-400A's is not enough to plate modulate a 3cx10000A at full input. I bet it is a one-bander (and not 160 meters, either)! -- Vic, K2VCO Fresno CA http://www.qsl.net/k2vco/ ________________
Let's see....would you seriously hand over $8500 to someone who: Can't write a grammatically correct advertisement Says he has an RF power amp but wait....it is "plate modulated by a 4-400" supposedl
Well, at least the ad doesn't say the amp is for 11 meters. Gene May WB8WKU _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/l
More likely since he also says "very little drive" the 4-400 is used in a grid driven driven configuration as a driver. That would be about right for 300W or so of carrier power to drive the 3CX-100

A PP 4-400 modulator will barely tickle that tube. Carl KM1H _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps
Maybe he is driving it with a 4-400! Carl KM1H _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps
A pair of 4-1000A's is not enough either ............... Don W4DNR _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/a
It is written in the singular " a 4-400". I emailed him and asked what band does it operate and what is a little drive See if he responds--most don't when challenged Paul K0UYA -- Original Message --
Nah, it only needs 330W of drive as an AM linear for 5650W out. 7KV at 2.4A For slopbucket its 1540W if you want it all.....24KW+. A SB-220 will get it close(-; Carl KM1H ____________________________
Let's see...12 KW dissipation. GG takes a peak of 1540 watts of drive, but that gives you 24KW out and it'll do this up through 2 meters and past 24000/.6=40KW peak in, or 40000/240 or only 166A My e
