Hi all, Anyone have an ALS-1306, and a K3, and care to comment on that setup? I will be selling the old AL-82, and getting a no tune, auto band switching amp, and am looking very hard at the ALS-1306

If I'm not mistaken the designer of the amp is using one with a K3 remotely, and he can run any Ameritron amp he wants. IMHO Elecraft messed up when they stopped at 500W with the KPA500. There are a

-- ORIGINAL MESSAGE --(may be snipped) REPLY: Did Ameritron ever state the duty cycle limit for the 1306? I phoned them on the 1300 and they told me 600 watts for RTTY or other full carrier modes. 73

I'll take your word for it. I don't know of any solid state 1KW amp that doesn't derate the power out for constant key down modes like RTTY, AM, and FM. I believe the KPA 500 is derated to no more th

I forgot to add that Ameritron also derates the AL-1500 to no more than half an hour at full power. Alpha is famous for the "brick on the key". Who's right? -- R. Kevin Stover AC0H __________________

Hi Kevin, Thank you for the reply! What features does the KPA-500 have the 1306 does not? Glad to hear the PS issues are better now. -- Thanks and 73's, For equipment, and software setups and reviews

When you buy the K3 to KPA500 interface cable running the pair makes the K3 in efferct a 500W transciever. You can change bands on the rig from the amp.,If the KPA is in Operate mode it will remember

It's not who's right, it's who put in components such as the PS that are capable of running at tilt all day long. With tube amps it's normal for one that will run the legal limit all day long to be h

What SHOULD happen is that manufacturers would specify duty cycle at a number of power levels, such as: 500w = 100% 1000w = 90% 1500w = 80% or whatever it is. 73, Bill W6WRT _________________________
