If you check the manual for the Mark V, menu selection 7-5 sets delay between keying and transmitting the actual character. In other words the amp gets a keying signal 1st and then the RF appears. So

You want menu 7-4 to delay RF output from MK-V until af ter amp relays close.  This is the menu used to prevent hot switching of an amps relays.  Mine is set at 25ms plenty slow for manual relays of
