4-400 tube will work in an Al82.  No problem.  They will have less gain and less output but youll get power.  Youll do better if you use less bias.  Use it in SSB mode to up the idle current.  There

Two things to watch out for. The 4-400A tubes are taller than the 3-500Z. Watch out for plate leads getting too close to top shield and the chimneys are too short. You could set the chimneys aside an
