The two 3-500zg's I put in my Henry 2K Classic X show little color at 1 KW on data modes, modest color, dull red to low orange at 1.5KW mode. The former is with 3 Kv on anode and the later is with 4

I don't think you want to run it in SSB (4kV) mode with a continuous output (like data or AM). My 3K-A with RF Parts ZGs will do that, too but the Tubes get pretty bright orange!! I can get almost 25

Must be the ZSAC - on my L4 on SSB position there is about 200mA, on CW position around 150mA. And i'm thinking the thickness of the plate material must be considerably more thin in the old Eimac 3-

I'm sure that's 99% of it. Although my old Amperex 8163s will get orange as well, it just takes them longer which is why I guessed at it being a thicker material. And likewise it takes quite a while
