- Hi there, - I've relayed to Bob about checking the blocking caps and the tank alignment. He has done said with no positive results. Here is his latest text to me. I'm in the process of relaying som

I had vacuums RF relay fail in the output circuit of my 15 meter 8877 amplifier and it had the exact same symptoms as you describe. Panel meters look OK, but power output is low. Has he tried another

Skipp, All of that is a waste of time, if indeed he has high grid current AND high plate current at the same time. Open blocking caps cause low plate current and high grid current. Misaligned tanks c

Folks, He might want to check the molex connectors between the front panel and the deck. I had one where they loosened-up and gave erratic meter readings. (The grid meter would peg).... 73, George K8

Skipp, Tom's analysis brought up an excellent point. If the amp is an original PA-77, there should be 5 megohms resistance between B- and ground. Easy test. Selected bits: Regards, Jim, N7CXI -- FAQ

The easy test doesn't tell much. It Might be a better idea to check the grid current metering shunt and multiplier, (R-20 & R-22) from the negative meter terminal to ground while the meter switch is

If there is a problem with the metering circuit as you suggest, Tom, whereby the grid meter is partially indicating plate current, then shouldn't the amp be reading some grid current under conditions

The problem can be a breakdown problem in a component, or something in the auto-bias. That amp doesn't have zero signal quiescent current because of the auto bias. The amp might have multiple proble

/\ Shallow-dip means heavy loading - which makes for minimal grid-current. My guess is that the grid-current meter is not accurate. A quick comparison with a DMM will tell what's what. . cheers, Tom
