Hi, I am converting an old Alpha-70V to use a 3CX1200Z7 instead of the teapot type 3CX1500V. The original filament transformer provides 5 volts at 30 amps. The 1200Z7 wants 6.3 volts at 25 amps. I'm

Not a good idea in general! Fewer volts is fine, but putting 220 on a 110 primary to double the output volts is asking for trouble... in the form of high temperatures, high primary currents, and blow

I agree. OK. I've had a "bang" event in my HB '1600b amp, one time. Afterwards, the tube was fine. The only damaged component was the shunt resistor for the screen grid current meter, which exploded.
