I'm not familiar with the MLA 2500, but if the HV metering arrangement is anything like the SB-220 then the "1500v" may be the result of bad multiplier resistors rather than genuinely low plate volta

In my experience (sample size of 1) The 930 definitely switches faster than the 220, even with the big relay in the 930. You can see this because the first dit of each CW transmission shows high SWR,
