        "Renewals " ?
Wtah are these, if i may ask? Never heard of that ?!?
As far as the battery drainage is the issue, I have just looke at my
ft-10's manual, and it says that the consumption is 150uA when the power
is turned off. I don't know about ft-50, though.
This looks small, but is very serious, compared to zero, as with 'normal'
radios. Calculate how much the battery will last with 150uA consumption. I
think i have done this before, and the result was no more than about ten
days. If someone could confirm this?..
Also, i guess that this current can vary larely, from radio to
radio.
Probably, there are units vith much lower power-off current
I have built CMOS circuits with different components, with
standby consumption varying very, very much...3-5 times more or less is
not too unexpected.
If standby current drops to just 50Ua, then your batt will last three
times more. If it comes to about a month, then you can't see the
difference between this and nicd self-discharge rate.
Some books say nicad-s discharge about 1% per day, average!
If you loose 30% after one month, your batt is not fully charged at the
beginnig, and it is old, so it is capable to deliver about 80% of
nominal... Things tend to go downhill :) very easily.
Then add 150uA (for ft-10) on top of this, and... you see what i mean ?

Probably yaesu has a fix for this, i don't know. I recharge my batt often,
and use it regularly, so i can't notice these effects :)
