For the money I would much rather buy a FT-1000D. The 'D' is a bit more, but
for a reason... much better rig. The MK-V may have more digital features but
lacking good mechanical filters (at least that is included).
The selectivity is IMO much better with the D vs. the MK-V when working i.e.
contests.

I'm sure you will be happy with the MK-V too though but I personally don't
like the look (GI Joe?!?!), the (non-matching) external power supply and the
cheaper feel than the 'D'. Digital features are cheap and can be added to
almost any radio. Good, mechanical filtering and less prone to RFI with no
plastic like the MP's is where the value and functionality lies.

The past 25 years I've had just about everything from HW-7, HW-101 to
FT-102, TS-850, 950SDX etc. (many more), but nothing beats the 'D'! :) I
bought one when they first came out around '90 and bought a brand new one
again just a few months ago.

Just my opinion as a hard core contester and DX'er,
Are - VA3ARE (ex. LB3SA, LA8QY and VE3TSZ)

I am considering buying a new rig and the Mark V looks like a good upgrade
from the FT-920
I presently own. The Mark V has been out there for a little over 6 months
now and I was
wondering if anyone has any comments? Good, Bad, Incredible?
