I also am using the HC5 with my 1000D and get excellent audio reports
with it. I converted a pair of Otimus headphones from Radio Shack
(mentioned a few months ago here if my memory serves) which are
simply wonderful, especially for CW. The frequency response is just
great. They were on sale for about $50 and may still be available.
I bought the HC5 element and modified the clam shell of the boom set
to accomodate the square Heil element, and reassembled it. Viola,
a headset that works great and cost about 1/2 of what Heil gets for
theirs.
