I have the FT1000MP MKV Field (with INRAD Roofing Filter, and Yeasu Narrow SSB
Filter) at home (W5JON), and use the IC756 PROIII when I operate in Belize
(V31FB). Although not side by side, here are my comments:
1. For contest operating when "splits" are required the MKV wins easily.
Changing a "split" on a PROIII is a pain. When in Belize, I can set a "split"
and leave it so the PROIII is fine, in the US it is a pain.
2. The NB on the MKV is much better then on the PROIII.
3. When using the DSP on the PROIII there is noteable receiver audio quality
change, that I do not hear on the MKV. The DSP selection options on the MKV are
far greater then that of the PROIII.
4. I do not notice any difference "by ear" in the selectivity or sensitivity
between the two, they are both great radios.
5. The MKV is just to big and heavy for traveling, while the PROIII is easy to
pack in a "roll on" suitcase.
So I guess the bottom line is, if had to have only one radio to use for both
contesting and casual operating, "AT HOME" it would be the MKV ...... however
the Inrad Roofing Filter is a MUST.
