In general, I have found that lockups occur as the result
of RF getting into the computer.

Subject: [WriteLog] WriteLog lockup solution?
I had five computer lockups during the ARRL DX SSB contest using WriteLog
10.24G
on a Windows 98SE system with an ethernet connection running on a local
three-computer network. The good news is that I never lost a single QSO, but
what a pain to have to reboot five times!
I am not blaming WriteLog, since each of the five lockups was different,
often
occurring while the computer was idle. Later, when I checked Windows Update,
I
found a likely solution to my problem. After loading the Mapped Drives
Shutdown
Update (below) my WriteLog has run a day without a lockup or crash. Has
anyone
else had this problem?

> This update resolves a shutdown issue in Windows 98 Second Edition, and is
discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base > (KB) Article Q260067. An affected
computer can stop responding if it has a significant number of mapped
network
drives > on your computer. The larger the number of drives that are mapped,
the
more likely the problem may occur. Download > now to prevent your computer
from
shutting down.
