That's correct, if and only if, what's in your Cabrillo file, in particular
the QTH column, is in agreement with what the log checking is using for
recognizing as valid mults. The latest mult file for CQWWRTTY in Writelog
is at variance with what the WT4I LogChecker will accept. Further since the
contest checkers can tailor the WT4I tool or whatever else they use there
is some uncertainty that what's in you Cabrillo file is correct. The
current discussion about Canadian "Areas" being a good example. I did some
simple tests with writelog and running the Cabrillo file though the W4TI
Log Checker....
For example if you have...
[CQRTTY]
.....
NFLD=VE
......
and
[CQRTTY-ALIAS]
....
VO1=NFLD
NF=NFLD
JUNK=NFLD
........
You can enter any of NF, NFLD, or JUNK and writelog will score
correctly(??using the term loosely).
But in Writelog you can't enter VO1 writelog won't accept a number in the
QTH field. So if someone actually sends his "Area" as per the rules for the
exchange you have to enter NF or NFLD manually you can't select VO1 with
the Mouse.
However the latest WT4I Log Checker only accepts NF (and VO1 if you can
enter it) as a valid Mult
The surprise is NFLD which has been suggested in sample files. Not knowing
what the log checking software is accepting for a particular contest leaves
on a bit open to losing QSOs if you don't emit accepted "spellings". Since
it is possible to alter the list that WT4I's tool accepts the checkers may
have their own ideas - hopefully generously broad - of accepted spellings.
Writelog will emit for the QTH anything you have properly setup for an
alias even if it's rubbish.
One logical improvement would be for writelog to map (and emit) the base
Mult when a alias is entered. In the above example when NF or NFLD or JUNK
is entered emit NFLD. Right now it'll emit whatever you actually entered
and perhaps only one of the three will result in a valid QSO.
Best to stick to well recognized spellings. I noticed that W4TI didn't
accept ONT or YUK either in the version I was using, upon getting the
latest they were OK but still no NFLD. It also is further reinforcement to
checking over your cabrillo file before submitting!
