Here's my message configuration for WriteLog. My point in describing it is
NOT to debate what is the "best", but rather to illustrate the versatility
of WriteLog to fit one's own preferences.

I use ESM (Enter Sends Message) for Run QSOs. I organize my Fn messages as:
        F1-F4: CQ-related messages
        F5-F8: Exchange-related messages
        F9-F12: Repeat and fill messages

I map my Fn keys to keys around the Enter key:
Enter: CQ (F2, if Call Window empty), Run Exchange (F5, if cursor in
Exchange Window), QSL (F6 if Exchange Window filled and cursor there)
        Apostrophe: Run Exchange (F5)
Semi-Colon: TU, Now (F8) for QSLing current QSO and sending exchange
to next QSO
Open Square Bracket: My Call (F4)
Close Square Bracket: S&P Exchange (Shift-F5)
Forward Slash: Special QSL message to friends and club members
(Shift-F8)
Hyphen: Push call in Entry Window onto stack
Equals: Pop call from stack to Entry Window
        Back Slash: His Call (Shift-F4)

Fn messages are "modular". For example, F4 is My Call just once. If a
given situation calls for my call being sent more than once I simply tap F4
(or, the re-mapped key Open Square Bracket) multiple times.

This way my hand/fingers are most always in one compact area of the keyboard
for 2BSIQ with two keyboards and two hands. This probably explodes one's
mind unless they happen to "prefer" this configuration. My point is that
this description is customized to my operating style and makes no sense for
others who operate differently. The take-away is that WriteLog can
accommodate just about any operating style. The first step is to clearly
choose and understand your own operating style before configuring WriteLog
to support it. Taking someone else's Fn keys, key mapping and messages
locks you into their operating style, not yours, which may be different and
inefficient for you.
