Hey don't feel bad, Dave. I was there for Tuesday night but totally
messed up my EME effort by receiving on my steerable antenna with tower
mounted preamp, but I was transmitting on my fixed array of short yagis
aimed down the coast. That really worked out well as I was hearing W5EME
and his single tropo yagi at -19 dB, but he never heard me. WQ5S did
not hear me either so he thought conditions were bad. Meanwhile I am
spewing Q65B down the East Coast on my tropo antenna. It is tough
getting old. Not only do you forget things but the screwup ratio goes
thru the roof. heh heh.
I did manage to work WA3EOQ in rapid fashion, but with slow QSB. I only
copied him for half of each transmission. Conditions were not good
overall, but his signal hardly varies winter or summer. I'll bet the
difference is only 5 dB. W2BYP has two yagis now on an AZ EL mount. I
did not find him last night on EME, but he was loud on tropo. He was S8
to S9 here.
See U next week and on the bands.

Now it's Wednesday and the band will be dead. However, I will be watching HB9Q each
night this week for any EME contacts. Last night I managed to copy Roger W7TZ every
sequence for over an hour, but he never heard me. So Oregan is still on my "Needed
List".
I also plan to be on 144, 222 & 432 for some of the EME contest this weekend,
mainly looking for needed states and countries.
Hopefully I will see (hear) you next Tuesday evening.

Subject: [VHFcontesting] 222 MHz Activity Night
OK folks, the tropo condx on Tuesday will be most likely winter time conditions
as a Canadian high pressure system moves into the northeast. The good news is
that there will be no tornadoes, no rain static and no lightning strikes and
hurricanes. The Moon will be properly positioned for some added fun on Tuesday
night as well. At
23:00 UT, the Moon will be up over 8 degrees at my place and rising across the
East as the evening progresses. Conditions will be optimum and signals could be
very good. I intend to look for tropo and EME signals over the evening. The
last time this happened I worked W5EME in Louisiana on his single yagi tropo
antenna. Signals were quite loud for his Moonrise. If anyone is interested, I
will be monitoring ON4KST and the HB9Q 222 MHz EME chat page. It would be great
to get many EME ops active with the hope that the chances to hear something
will then go up for everyone! The EME activity is around 222.080-090 or so.
The typical mode is Q65B-60 second sequences.
I hope to be QRV starting a bit before 23:00 UT on 222.100 and will monitor
ON4KST 144/432 Region 2 Chat while I am making noise on 222 MHz. Hopefully we
can swap stories about the October 10 Aurora. I sure would like to hear what
was worked early in the evening. I missed the best part before 00:30 UT. CU
on Tuesday.
