Hello VHFers
The snow is awful deep and the only way I can get on is to somehow break
a trail for half a mile uphill thru the woods. I am thinking that I
will sit this one out as the exertion to get up to the shack is
excessive. Then I have to shovel out the doors to get in the building.
This is Tuesday and it is 222 MHz Activity Night. I am torn at possibly
missing the fun.
On a different subject, I have heard from the lucky winner of the all
expenses paid dog sled vacation to Beechey Island. The winner is Dr
Vincent Goombotz, who is an active POTA participant. He and the team
has reached Pond Inlet in Nunavut. The sled dogs could get a rest as
Vinny was put up in fine style at the Black Point Lodge near the ocean
on the northern shore of Nunavut. in not so Sunny down town Pond Inlet
(They are in perpetual darkness until about February 20th) Beechey
Island is another 350 miles away and the team informs me that they have
loaded another 450 lbs of whale blubber to feed the dogs and they all
feel that they are on the downhill run towards their destination. Vinnie
has made a few QSOs with his Buddi pole, but voice is difficult due to
the constant shivering, and CW is out of the question as the key metal
shattered in the cold when too many dits were sent. The 222 MHz
Activity Committee is planning their next give away to lucky 222 MHz
operators, so don't forget to be on the air tonight so you can be
eligible for the next prize. The action starts around 00:00 UT on
222.100 or there -abouts. Many folks monitor ON4KST Chat 144/432
Region 2. Last week was quite active and I hope that we get lots of
action this evening!
